  • Fall Back Reflection...

✨🍁🍂🕰️❄️✨🍁🍂🕰️❄️ No pain, no gain — and this weekend, the pain is almost gone! The gain? A full extra hour of sleep as we “fall back” at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. 😴🍂 Remember to turn back all your clocks — digital ones may be obedient, but the analog ones still need a little human touch. How nice it’ll be to wake to a brighter morning! Though, yes... evening will now tiptoe in by 4 p.m., as if to say, “Enough productivity — light your lamps and rest.” 🔦 Ah well, it’s cold and snowing anyway. All the more reason to curl up in a warm, toasty home, with family, pets, and gratitude. Time slows for no one — but this weekend, at least, it kindly pretends to. ⏰😉 The Gift of One Hour When clocks rewind and shadows grow, The golden day yields softer glow. Time lends an hour — a fleeting gift, For hearts to rest, for thoughts to lift. Each tick and tock, divinely spun, Marks dusk’s retreat, the rising sun. For God who framed both night and light Still whispers peace through dark and bright. So use this hour — not just to dream, But live more fully in His scheme. To love, to pause, to give, to care, To find His purpose everywhere. For time, like breath, is heaven’s art — Best treasured in a thankful heart. #GratefulForTime #SeasonsOfGrace 🌅 Fall Back | 撥慢一小時 When time turns back, may our hearts move forward — to rest, to love, to give thanks. God paints the rhythm of day and night, and through every season, His purpose shines. FlameThrower™ Salsa Verde Coleus - An annual that gives out fall colour leaves and late summer blooming flowers. • Praying with Every Step — Turning Exercise into WorshipStaying in Shape, Body and Mind

Many of us join a gym or take up jogging, yoga, or swimming to stay fit and healthy. Some exercise daily, others occasionally, and some merely think about it while sitting comfortably on the couch. Many listen to upbeat music, podcasts, or watch TV while working out — trying to make the time pass faster or to distract from the effort. But what if physical exercise could be more than a health routine? What if it could become a sacred moment — a time to connect with God, to align our hearts while strengthening our bodies? A recent article, “How to Pray When You Exercise,” by David Mathis, offers a refreshing perspective on how believers can make their workouts holy through the Word of God and prayer (1 Tim. 4:4–5). When we do so, ordinary exercise becomes a spiritual practice that nurtures both body and soul. (https://www.crossway.org/.../how-to-pray-when-you.../...) How to Pray When You Exercise 1️⃣ Receive Exercise as a Gift Every heartbeat, breath, and muscle movement is a gift from God. Thank Him for the strength of your legs, lungs, and arms, and even for the limits that remind you of your dependence on Him. Gratitude turns simple movement into worship — “For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Cor. 6:20) 2️⃣ Ask God for Help Pray for energy, endurance, and self-discipline. Ask Him to help you overcome laziness, push through discomfort, and avoid injury. Let your exercise build not only physical stamina but also spiritual perseverance — the kind that resists temptation and grows in self-control. (1 Cor. 9:27; Gal. 5:23) 3️⃣ Keep the Right Perspective Fitness can easily become self-focused or appearance-driven. Pray that your exercise won’t feed pride or vanity, but serve humility and godliness. Let your workouts make you more ready — not just to look good — but to love and serve others well. 4️⃣ Make It Worship Before, during, and after your run, walk, or stretch, whisper a prayer: “Father, this body and this time are Yours.” Consecrate your movement as an offering to the One who designed and sustains your life. Exercise then becomes not just training for the body, but joy for the soul. Final Thought So next time you lace up your shoes, step into the gym, or take a morning walk, remember: you can exercise with purpose beyond the mirror — to glorify God with your body, renew your spirit, and find joy in His presence with every step and every breath. #PrayWhileYouExercise #FaithInMotion Each step, a prayer. Each breath, thanksgiving.

  • ✨ The Weight of a Soul ✨

I read an article in Popular Science by Leah Hudson, published September 18, 2025, entitled “The 21 grams experiment that tried to weigh a human soul.” ( https://www.popsci.com/science/21-grams-experiment/...) It told the story of Dr. Duncan MacDougall, who in 1907 placed dying patients on a scale, hoping to prove the soul had physical weight. He claimed the body lost 21 grams at the moment of death — and the idea stuck. More than a century later, books, movies, and even anime still reference “21 grams” as the supposed weight of the human soul. But science was silent. The experiment was flawed, the results inconsistent, and no one has ever proven the soul can be weighed. Yet the fascination continues because people are still asking, and the article ends with the same question: Are we more than just a body? Does something in us live on after death? The Bible already answers what science cannot. “The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7). For believers, Jesus promises: “Today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). Paul longed “to depart and be with Christ” (Philippians 1:23). For those who reject Him, Scripture warns of Hades and judgment (Luke 16:23; Hebrews 9:27). The truth is clear: the soul is spirit, not substance. It cannot be weighed on a scale — but it carries infinite worth in God’s eyes. Science may ask, but Scripture answers. When science is quiet, faith speaks. And I can’t help but wonder: had Dr. MacDougall known the Bible’s truth about the soul and trusted Christ, he would have found more than an experiment. He would have found salvation — and perhaps one day I might meet him in Heaven. 📖 “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Matthew 16:26) #FaithOverScience #EternalTruth #SoulWorth #GospelHope

這正是 《The World’s Greatest Book: The Story of How the Bible Came to Be》 一書所要講述的精彩故事。 許多日常英語成語,正是來自聖經: • By the skin of your teeth(《約伯記》19:20,解作「勉強倖存,死裡逃生」) • The powers that be(《羅馬書》13:1,解作「在位掌權的人」) • Signs of the times(《馬太福音》16:3,解作「時代的徵兆」) • The writing on the wall(《但以理書》5:5–31,解作「明顯的警告,末日的兆頭」) 連現代文學巨匠也承認其力量。

  • Reflecting on September 11 and My Start-Up Journeys ...

In my life, I have been blessed with several opportunities to start new things — from launching departments to founding companies. Each venture ignited my entrepreneurial spirit, and each carried lessons of courage, humility, and God’s timing. • Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC Far East, Hong Kong). At the time, I was serving as an Account Executive at Burson-Marsteller, gaining valuable experience in PR and advertising. A professor from the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Journalism Department, who knew me well, mentioned my name to the HR Manager at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). Through that introduction, I was “headhunted” and was invited to interview at DEC Far East Headquarters in Hong Kong. Looking back, I see how the Lord used my accomplishments at Burson-Marsteller as a kind of frying pan — a training ground to season and prepare me — so that at the right time, those skills could be put to good use in serving the world’s second-largest computer company. After interviews with four department managers and the President, I was offered the position to establish the Far East Marketing Communications Department, directing and coordinating programs across the region — from China to Japan, Thailand to Singapore, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Manager: Bob Schmidt. Secretary: Lily Chow. President: Bobby Choonawala. • BJ Communications, Canada. After emigrating to Canada, Betty and I started a small home-based writing and design company in Mississauga, serving clients such as the Mississauga Chinese Business Bureau. We later closed it to focus on full-time work and raising our family. • eTrons Systems, Inc., California (.com era). After graduating in 1996 from the School of Landscape Architecture at what was then Ryerson Polytechnic University, I was engaged full-time by ENVision – The Hough Group as a landscape architectural designer. A few years later, a new door opened: I was “headhunted” to join a California.com start-up, eTrons Systems, Inc., during the height of the online B2B wave. Through a providential connection, I met President Nicky Wu and Assistant Chan Siyin, and was invited to San Francisco for a Good Friday interview. Within days, I accepted the offer and helped build the Marketing Communications Department, designing the brand identity, communications programs, and trade show presence, with an IPO targeted for September 2001. Then came September 11, 2001. The terrorist attacks froze venture capital overnight, and I was asked to wind down the company within one month. Yet when one door closed, another opened: my former boss at ENVision asked if I could help them part-time since they were short-staffed. My answer surprised them — I could rejoin full-time. It was a moment of grace, a reminder that God’s timing and provision are perfect, even when our plans collapse. • Cloud Church (2019). Partnering with Pastor David Hoi and his wife, Jing, we launched an online church just before COVID. From logos and websites to Zoom services and a YouTube archive of sermons and songs, this ministry continues today. • Rock House Publishers (today). My current “start-ups” are within a legacy: developing new workflow tools, writing books and e-books, and sharing weekly Facebook messages. Lesson learned: Starting something new is exhilarating, but sustaining it takes faith, discipline, and humility. 9/11 taught me that human plans may collapse in a moment, but God’s provision opens new paths. So I will keep starting – with open hands, open mind, and open heart. #StartupLessons #ResilienceAndFaith #GodsTiming #NewBeginnings

  • 🌬️ When Wisdom Falls Short, the ‘Word’ Speaks✝️

I recently read a book chapter about Miracles, God, and the Afterlife. The author told of his daughter’s remarkable recovery—something even doctors called a miracle. Yet after all his searching, his conclusion was: “I need wind for my sails and a strong rudder.” But from whom? From where? Science can describe patterns, but it cannot give purpose. Other faiths may offer endless cycles, but no assurance. Only Christ names Himself as the answer: • He is the wind—the Spirit that gives life (John 3:8). • He is the rudder—the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). When science is silent and other faith provides no answer, Christ speaks. He gives us purpose in our days, hope in our grief, and direction in our journey. Without Him, we drift. With Him, we are guided home. 💭 My takeaway: Miracles may stir our wonder, but only faith in Christ secures our purpose—and our eternal destination. #Miracles #Faith #HopeInChrist #Purpose #EternalLife

A Genesis Moment

  • ✨ A Rare Encounter of Love: Hummingbirds and “White Belly” the Squirrel ✨

This morning, while feeding our “adopted” grey squirrel—who comes to our deck every day and whom my wife fondly nicknamed “White Belly”—I experienced a rare and unforgettable moment of grace. I sprinkled bread crumbs on the deck and kept making my click-click call, urging White Belly from the far end of the lawn to get onto the deck. Unlike my usual short calls, today I kept it going until he finally climbed the steps. Just as White Belly stepped onto the deck and picked up a crumb, two hummingbirds suddenly appeared—one from the east, the other from the west. They hovered only a few feet from my face, as if looking right at me, then disappeared into the woods in a flash. 🐦 Hummingbirds are solitary by nature and rarely seen in pairs. In 30 years in Canada, I’ve only seen a single hummingbird visit the Bleeding Heart perennials I planted for them twice. But today, for the first time, a pair appeared together from the left and right, meeting right before my eyes. How rare! To me, it was a miraculous encounter of love. In that instant, I felt a profound alignment: White Belly below, two hummingbirds above, forming an invisible, inverted triangle right before me. Not a coincidence, but divine timing—a moment that deeply touched my soul. Yesterday in prayer, I asked the Lord to grant peace and joy to my parents in His presence. Today, two hummingbirds appeared, as if embodying their presence—bringing me comfort and love from Heaven. 🙏 This was an encounter born of love: love for the Creator, love for Nature, and love for my parents now with the Lord. A once-in-a-lifetime moment. 👍✨ And yes, I also heard their other message: “We’re hungry—time to hang up the nectar feeder!” 🌸 #HummingbirdMessenger #RareEncounter #DivineAlignment #PraiseTheLord

  • 🌿 Nature Speaks the Truth — Science Speaks the Creator's Mind

In a world swirling with opinions and "versions" of truth, it’s refreshing—and comforting—to know that truth can indeed be discovered. And one of the most accessible places to begin this discovery? Nature. From the tiniest seed to the farthest galaxy, the universe speaks in unison: this is not random. Creation is bursting with design, intention, variety, and beauty—things a cosmic accident could never produce. As Romans 1:20 reminds us: “God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made…” 🧬 That’s why science is not the enemy of faith—it’s a window into the mind of the Creator. 📘 Our new Chinese publication, 《科學少年森姆和他的祕密日誌》 (Science Geek Sam and His Secret Logbook), takes curious readers on an imaginative journey with Sam—a witty, wide-eyed boy who explores questions of faith and science with wonder and honesty. Through puzzles, observations, experiments, and Scripture, this engaging book helps kids (and adults!) explore how faith and facts can live in harmony. 📖 Truth isn’t just found in nature or textbooks. Pastor Rick Warren reminds us that God reveals truth through other vital means: • Conscience — that inner voice pointing us to right and wrong. • Consideration — reflecting wisely, not rushing blindly. • Commandments — Scripture that guides and grounds us. • Christ — the embodiment of truth: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6) 🌍 Whether through a leaf, a law of physics, or the love of Jesus, God is constantly whispering, “I am here. • ✨Start children off on the way they should go

I am sharing this with you all as the majority of schools start tomorrow, September 2, 2025. Proverbs 箴言 Chapter 22, verse 6 (New International Version): ✨Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. A hairstylist Mom once said to me, 'I wish I could have my children attend Sunday School while they are young.' I can sense that missed opportunity and regretful tone in her voice. ✨Yes, give them the opportunity to attend Sunday School. ✨🙏 Why I said 'majority' of schools, it's because there are a couple of school institutions in Ontario adopting a 'year-round' or 'modified' year-round schedule (4% in the US). From Google AI: While there aren't many true "whole-year" schools in Ontario, a few public and private schools offer year-round or modified year-round schedules, such as Tony Pontes Public School in the Peel District School Board, which uses a balanced calendar, and a few private institutions like Braemar College. Most public schools follow the traditional September to June calendar, but a balanced calendar with shorter breaks and different start dates has been implemented in some public boards and specific schools like Tony Pontes Public School. Year-Round or Modified Year-Round School Examples: Tony Pontes Public School (Peel District School Board): This school has a balanced school year schedule that allows for longer family breaks at different times of the year, rather than a long summer break. Braemar College: This is a private high school in Toronto that divides the academic year into four nine-week terms, with a shorter summer term from July to mid-August, according to braemarcollege.com. This is how working parents manage their children's summer vacation: Working parents manage their kids' summer vacation by combining strategies such as enrolling children in summer camps or daycare, hiring nannies, or creating parenting co-ops with other families. They also take staggered holidays, discuss flexible work schedules with employers, and encourage older children to be more independent or take on summer jobs. Planning ahead, setting realistic expectations, and maintaining some routine can help reduce stress for both parents and children. • 📸 The Gift of Seeing the Small Things

My friend, Heman Shih — an architect with a keen eye for beauty — shared this incredible pair of images (see image): a hummingbird hawk moth sipping nectar from bergamot flowers. It hovered there for over half an hour, doing what it was created to do. Most of us might walk by and never see it — but not Heman. I’m beginning to think he’s got a “third eye” for beauty, and for the fingerprints of the Creator. This little creature, often mistaken for a hummingbird, is actually a hawk moth (also called sphinx moth or hummingbird moth). Did you notice this moth has the name of two birds? Hummingbird and Hawk. Turned out form and size are the components for naming. Interesting, isn’t it. But it’s smaller than a hummingbird — only 1 to 2 inches long — and yet it possesses everything necessary to function in God’s great design: wings, eyes, a feeding tube, a nervous system, a heart. In Chinese we say it has 五臟俱全 — all its vital organs, just like a full-sized animal or human. ✨ Nothing like this “just appears.” You can’t Big Bang this into existence by accident. Its hovering flight, its purposeful movement from flower to flower, its pollination work — it all speaks of intentional design, not randomness. 📚 Did you know? Hawk moths are important pollinators, especially for long-tubed flowers that bees or butterflies can't reach. Some plants are exclusively pollinated by these moths. At dusk or dawn, they emerge quietly, fulfill their purpose in nature, and disappear again. No fanfare — just faithfulness. 🌱 And perhaps that’s the lesson: God’s creation doesn’t always shout — sometimes it whispers. Sometimes the smallest creatures preach the loudest sermons… if we’re willing to see and listen. “Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much…” — Luke 16:10 “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.” — Luke 12:6 In a world that prizes visibility, we often forget that being small does not mean being insignificant. Jesus repeatedly pointed to the smallest — the mustard seed, the lost coin, the child, the sparrow — to show that eternal value has nothing to do with size. So let’s celebrate the quiet wonders. Let’s notice the overlooked. Let’s give thanks for the hummingbird hawk moth — and for friends like Heman who help us see what we would have missed. 🙏✨🦋 Info︰https://southcountynews.org/.../picture-walks-the.../ #SeeTheSmallThings #DesignedByGod #FaithInTheDetails #RockHouseReflections
