When the Date Meets the Temperature ...

Who follows whom?

Does the temperature follow the date, or does the date follow the temperature?

For three days in a row, I noticed something that made me smile.

On April 15, the temperature showed 15°C.

On April 16, it showed 16°C

On April 17, it showed 17°C.

Once may be a chance.

Twice may be a oincidence.

Three times in a row feels like a little pattern worth pausing over.

Of course, I am not saying the weather is ruled by the calendar page. But moments like these remind me that we live in a world not of chaos, but of order. Behind the rhythm of dates, seasons, rain, warmth, growth, and renewal is a Creator whose design is wise, timed, and dependable.

Spring quietly tells the story again every year. Warmer days soften the frosty ground. Earthworms and microorganisms return to their hidden work in the soil. Trees begin to stir. Flowers prepare to bloom. People, birds, animals, and plants all respond to the call of the season, each in its own way, each on cue.

Yes, April brings showers, and sometimes even flooding when the ground is already full from melting snow and rain. Yet even that reminds us that nature moves by cycles larger than ourselves. Then come the flowers of May, splashed across the earth like strokes from God’s colorful paintbrush. And before long, it will be time for me to visit Costco for potted annuals to brighten the front patio and yard and quietly announce, “Summer is here.”

A small three-day observation may not change the world, but it can still turn the heart toward gratitude. New days do not arrive randomly. They come as gifts. And each well-lived day is another reminder that God remains in control of time, season, earth, and life.

“He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.” -- Psalm 104 verse 19

May we welcome each new day with hope, live it with gratitude, and celebrate it as part of God’s good and faithful design.

So whether by pattern, providence, or a gentle wink from creation, this much is sure: every new day arrives under God’s care. Let us receive it with hope, live it with purpose, and give thanks for the beauty of being alive in His ordered world.
